In Memory of Dorothy Birkenmeier


October 29, 1921 - September 4, 2019

Dorothy Birkenmeier Age 97, of Rice Lake, WI died peacefully Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at Brentwood Memory Care in Rice Lake. She was born on October 29, 1921 in Minneapolis, MN to Adolph and Rosalie (Poniciki) Gazda. Dorothy attended school in Minneapolis and was married to Robert Birkenmeier on February 7, 1942. They moved to Rice Lake in July 1961 and owned and operated Monarch Lounge “Mr. Bobs), B&B Excavating and Ackley Novelty Company. Dorothy was a devoted Catholic and attended weekly adoration. She had a heart of gold, loved making ceramics, doing crafts, watching the Green Bay Packers, going shopping and most of all loved being with her family.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Colleen and Jerry Draganowski of Rice Lake; 3 sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Sharon Birkenmeier of Eau Claire, WI, Loren and Kris Birkenmeier of Appleton, WI and Greg Birkenmeier (Sherry Shipman) of Cameron, WI; 8 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Birkenmeier; 5 sisters and 6 brothers.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM Monday, September 9, 2019 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rice Lake, Father Ed Anderson officiating, with interment in St. Joseph Cemetery in Rice Lake. Visitation will be held from 9-11AM Monday at the Church. Appleyard’s Home for Funerals in Rice Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials appreciated to St. Joseph Catholic School/Church.
