In Memory of Doris 'Jean' Ebler


January 5, 1938 - August 30, 2022

Doris “Jean” Ebler, age 84, passed away on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at her home in Chetek, WI.

She was born January 5, 1938 in Rice Lake, WI to Marvin & Ethel (Gorton) Swanson.

She had two younger sisters, Kathryn & Dian. After the death of her mother at a young age, Dorothy (Olson) Swanson became her stepmother. Jean attended grade school at Howard Country School and graduated from Chetek High School in 1955. During her high school years, she met Tom Ebler and they were married on April 13, 1956 in Chetek. Tom & Jean continued to live in the Chetek area where they raised four children: Tom Jr., Doris, Lorraine and Richard. Jean spent many years being active in her children’s lives serving as a 4-H leader and a Sunday school teacher. She also kept the family farm running when Tom worked away from their home. Jean was also a very active member of the New Scandinavia Lutheran Church, working in the ladies aid, circle, quilting and fundraising. Jean filled her retirement years with reading, puzzles, card playing and watching ball games. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Jean was preceded in death by her mother & father, stepmother, her daughter: Lorraine, and a great-grandson: Isaac. She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years: Tom, sons: Tom Jr. (Judy) of Chetek, Richard (Julie) of Trego, daughter: Doris (Steve) Laursen of Cumberland, son-in-law: James Owens of Haughton, LA, grandchildren: Becky, Russel, Matthew, Randy, Elizabeth, Beth, William, Jessica, Chad, Michelle and also 21 great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 10 at New Scandinavia Lutheran Church in the Town of Maple Grove, rural Dallas with Rev. Ron Gerl officiating. Visitation will be held for the hour prior to services at the church. Arrangements are with Rausch-Lundeen Funeral Homes, Dallas & Cameron.
