In Memory of Donna Hopkins
Donna Hopkins, age 74, a resident of Chippewa Falls, and formerly of Spooner, died on Tuesday, May 21, 2019, at the Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire with her family by her side.
Donna was born on August 11, 1944, in Chicago, Illinois to parents Fred and Harriet (Ernst) Tews. She graduated from Luther High School in 1962. Donna married Everett Hopkins on June 25, 1965 and they raised their family in Evergreen Park, IL and Spooner, WI. She received her Associate’s Degree in Nursing from Moraine Valley College in 1975 and began her nursing career. In 1976, she moved to Spooner and worked at Spooner Memorial Hospital. After divorcing, she earned her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from UW Superior. In 1990, she moved to Chippewa Falls and worked at the Fall Creek Nursing Home until her retirement in 2005.
Donna’s kindness, compassion and witty sense of humor will be missed by all who knew her. She loved to travel, read, sew and crochet. Donna enjoyed viewing the wildlife around her home and she had many loved pets over the years. Most of all she loved holidays and any time spent with family—especially her grandchildren who were her joy.
Donna is survived by her children: Audrey (Dan) Kevan of Spooner, Gordon Hopkins of Rockford, MN, grandchildren: Meredith and Frances Kevan, Thomas and Erin Hopkins, and several nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Donna is preceded in death by her parents, sister Madeleine Oliver, and brother Bruce Tews.
Gathering of friends and family will be held on Tuesday, June 25 from 4-7 at the Spooner Funeral Home with a service at 7PM with Pastor Brent Berkesch officiating. An inurnment will occur at a later date in the family lot at Concordia Cemetery in Chicago.
