In Memory of Donald R. David


February 3, 1932 - August 31, 2024

Donald Robert David, age 92, of Barron, passed away on August 31, 2024 at Monroe Manor.

On February 3, 1932, Clarence and Ruth (Lester) David welcomed their son, Donald Robert David in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. Donald graduated from Prairie High School with honors.

Donald married Mary Fish on May 5, 1950. Together, they had 8 children. Donald farmed for several years and after he and Mary divorced, he became an over the road truck driver until he retired and moved to Barron.

Both he and his family were proud of his milestone of driving equal to 40 times around the earth with no accidents. In his spare time, Donald liked to hunt and fish with family and friends. He also frequented the local coffee shop after his retirement. He was known for is jokes, stories and “pearls of wisdom”.

After moving to Barron, he met his very special friend, Margaret Tietz with whom he spent 27 years traveling and fishing and she grew to be a part of the family.

He is survived by his 8 children, Gary (Joan) David of Waukon, IA. Susan Richter of Cumberland, Audry (Donald) Craft of Swaledale, IA, Mark (Sharon) David of Prairie du Chien, Kenneth (Pam) David of Hillsdale, Ruth (Clancey) Preston of Barron, Jeffrey (Jane) David of Waukon, IA, and April (Jon Pasco) Kieler of Chetek. Donald’s family was his pride and joy, it soon blossomed into 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Karen (Joe) Price of Hamilton, OH; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Harvey “Al” Richter; fishing buddy and grandson, Bryce David; brother, Lawrence; and sister, Elaine Natwick, both from Prairie du Chien.

Those who knew Donald describe him as a kind and caring man.  He will be missed by many.

A Celebration of Life will be held on September 21, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at the home of Kenneth and Pam David at 1321 7th Street in Hillsdale. A luncheon of his favorite meal of pork roast dumplings and kraut will be served after. Family and friends and the amazing staff at Monroe Manor are invited to attend.

Arrangements are being handled by Rausch and Steel Funeral Home in Barron.
