In Memory of Donald J. Hecht


July 14, 1935 - December 28, 2018

Donald John Hecht, 83, of Cumberland died Friday, December 28, 2018 at Golden Age Manor. He was born July 14, 1935 in Stillwater, MN to Henry and Amanda (Wichelman) Hecht. Don was raised in Withrow and attended country school there. He served with the U.S. Air Force in Guam, at Edwards Air Base and March Air base with a specialization in electronics.  He was married in Taylors Falls on June 6, 1959 to Mary Ann Greene. They farmed in Withrow on the family farm until 1963, when they moved to the Cumberland area and purchased the John Becker farm. They milked cows until 2001 when they converted exclusively to crop farming. Don enjoyed fishing and working in his shop. He had a lifelong love of airplanes.

He is survived by his sons: Douglas (Lisa) Hecht of Appleton, Steve (Pam) Hecht of Calumet, MI, Bill (Penny) Hecht of Cumberland, Alvin (Julie) Hecht & Andy (Laura) Hecht of Cumberland; 10 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann on February 2, 2009; his brother, Robert and sister, Helen Goiffon. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, January 4, 2019 at St. Anthony Catholic Church - Cumberland with Father Tom Thompson officiating and burial at follow in the church cemetery where full military honors will be accorded by Anderson-Thomson Post #98 American Legion, Cumberland. Pallbearers are James Hecht, Randy Hecht, Shawn Hecht, Joe Hecht, Nathan Hecht and Israel Hecht.  
Visitation will be from Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 at the Skinner Funeral Home in Cumberland and for 1 hour prior to the service at the church.

Skinner Funeral Home of Cumberland is serving the family.
