In Memory of Donald H. Hinz
Donald Henry Hinz of Luck, WI passed away peacefully with family beside him at Frederick Nursing Home on Friday, May 31, 2024
Donald was born December 22, 1935, in St. Paul. He graduated from Marshall High School in 1953. Donald joined the United States Army in 1955; he attended College of St. Olaf and University of Minnesota. He joined the St. Paul Police Department in 1961 and retired as Sargent in 1986. After retiring from the Police Department, he worked part-time as a Security Officer at United Hospital (Children’s Unit) from 1986-1989 and worked as a Security Guard at West Publishing from 1989-1995.
In 1993, Don bought a lake home in Luck, WI where he fully retired and spent summers in Luck, WI and spent his time in Mesa, AZ in the winters. Don enjoyed visiting his parents in Walnut Ridge, AK, traveling to see friends in Texas and Florida, reading and cutting recipes (he had thousands). Don loved doing Wall Street crossword puzzles every Sunday with his neighbor John.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Loretta (Smith)/Velma (Crisp). He leaves to celebrate his memory; son, Gregory (Annie) Hinz, Doug Hinz; daughter, Kara (Greg) Brennhofer and step-daughters, Debbie (Tom) Bianchi, Claudia (Mark) Severson, Stephanie (Dan) Heitzman; grandchildren; Jennifer (Matt) Radanke, Erik (Emily) Hinz, Douglas “DJ” (Kayla) Hinz, Cole Hinz, Tara Hinz, Carter Hinz, Brittany Brennhofer, Zachary (Andrea) Brennhofer; Emily (Aaron) Johnson, Katie McNaughton; great-grandchildren; Wren Brennhofer, Daniel Johnson, Isaiah Johnson and Sophia Johnson.
A private service will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Don’s family would like to express their gratitude to St. Croix Hospice and Frederick Nursing Home for their compassionate care of their father.
