In Memory of Don Stellrecht


November 13, 1936 - October 29, 2023

Don Stellrecht died peacefully at home surrounded by family on October 29, 2023.

He was born November 13, 1936 to Harry and Ethel (Higgins) Stellrecht. He attended Green Grove Elementary School and graduated from Spooner High School in 1954. He served four years in the Air Force from December 1955 to January 1960 and during that time was stationed in Japan. After returning from military service, Don received Christ as his Savior. He then attended the University of Wisconsin at River Falls and graduated in 1964 with a degree in Social Studies and a minor in Library Science.

Don married Delores Evelyn (Roe) Stellrecht on July 25, 1964. They moved to Ellsworth where Don was the Librarian at Ellsworth Senior High School for 30 years. They had three children, Julie, Jay, and Jeff.

Don was a charter member of Lake Park Alliance Church in Shell Lake, Wisconsin and served on the governing board, as Sunday School Superintendent, and taught Sunday School for many years. He was also a charter member of Red Wing Alliance Church in Red Wing, Minnesota.

After he retired in 1995, he and Delores returned to reside in Spooner, Wisconsin where he designed and built a house on Spooner Lake. They sold that home in 2019 and moved to Shell Lake, Wisconsin.

Don’s hobbies were many including traveling, photography, building, collecting, church activities and conferences, and games of all types - especially Canasta.

Don is survived by his wife, Delores; his three children, Julie (John) Federer, Jay (Nancy) Stellrecht, and Jeff (Sheryl) Stellrecht; his grandchildren, Jordan (Kelsey) Federer, Joanna (Adam) Thomas, Robin (Josh) Nelson, Erin (Eric) Lundstrom, Corinna, Lucas, and Isaac Stellrecht, Michaela and Alexandra Stellrecht, Spencer (Karli) O’Reilly, Quentin (Alyssa) O’Reilly, Isabella O’Reilly, and 12 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Jane Shambour, and Valerie (Terry) Huffman. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister, two brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law.

Services will be held at Lake Park Alliance Church in Shell Lake on Saturday, November 4. The service begins at 11:00 with visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow at Greendale Cemetery.
