In Memory of Dolores Beaudin


November 2, 1936 - January 17, 2020

Dolores was born in the Hayward Indian Hospital on November 2nd, 1936 in Hayward, Wisconsin. She was a direct decendent of Chief Osage and Chief Gurno, both of Lac Courte Oreilles Tribe.  She was raised and went to school in Ladysmith with her 13 siblings and her mother, Mary (View) Barten and father, Theodore Barten.  Dolores married her husband, Steven Beaudin in December 28, 1954, and gave birth to 10 children between living in Chicago, IL, Cornell, WI, Jim Falls, WI, Stanley, WI, Ladysmith, WI, and finally back to their mother’s home in Lac Courte Oreilles.

While raising 10 children, Dolores attended higher education from Mount Scenario College in Ladysmith and received an Early Childhood Development Certification at Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe Community College where she received an Associates of Arts Degree in Native American Studies. She also worked at Chippewa Falls Headstart, St Joseph’s Nursing Home as a Nursing Assistant, as well as Ladysmith Nursing Home, Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe Community College as an instructor, and at Lac Courte Oreilles K-12 School as a Teacher’s Aide.  She also was very involved with education such as; fundamental in development of the Headstart program in Wisconsin, she was on the Parent Advisory Committee for the LCO School, and a member of the Board of Reagents for the Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe Community College that helped start the college and took part in writing the feasibility study to start the college, as well as the College’s charter, where she was honored by having the Student Center named after her.  Dolores was also on the Lac Courte Oreilles Honor the Earth Pow Wow Committee for many years and a contributing don.  Dolores retired from the Lac Courte Oreilles K-12 School in 2012 at the age of 75.

Dolores is survived by her brothers Lloyd Edward (Donna) Barten, and Robert Thomas (Pat) Barten; and her sisters Juanita (Richard) Hebard, and Catherine (Rodney) Williams; Dolores’ children Joseph (Christine) Beaudin, Irene (William) Stedl, Mary Beaudin, Rose (Gary) Beaudin, Wayne Beaudin, Raymond Beaudin, Brenda Beaudin, Michelle Beaudin, Paul (Bonnie) Beaudin, Kim Beaudin; 30 grandchildren, 72 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren; and many special nephews, nieces, and cousins too numerous to count.

Dolores was preceded in death by her father, Theodore Barten, her mother, Mary (View) Barten; her loving husband, Steven Beaudin; her brothers Theodore Barten, Peter John Barten, Raymond Barten, Charles Barten, Richard Barten; her sisters Margarette Hebard, Ida Mae Hritz, Charlene Barten, Geraldine Barten; and her grandson John McDaniel.

Tribal Funeral Rites were held on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at Pineview Funeral Service in Hayward, with Bobby Williams as officiant. Burial was in St. Francis Cemetery, Reserve. Visitation began at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, January 20 at Pineview Funeral Service.

Honorary Casket bearers were Lloyd Edward Barten, Robert Thomas Barten, Rodney Williams, Gerald Cadotte, John William Cadotte, Joseph Beaudin, Wayne Beaudin, Raymond Beaudin, Paul Beaudin.

Casket bearers were few of her grandsons Christopher Kessenich, Av Beaudin, Cody Jo Gustafson, Steven Harley Beaudin, Sean Fleming, and Shiloh Beaudin.
