In Memory of Dick Lau
Richard James "Dick" Lau, 78, of Cumberland died Saturday, January 5, 2019 at his home with his loyal black lab, Buck at his side. He was born September 2, 1940 in St. Paul, MN to Wilbur and Helen (Schneider) Lau, was raised in St. Paul and Cumberland, and graduated from Cumberland High School in 1958. Dick enlisted in the U.S. Army and served 3 years, mostly in Germany. He loved the outdoors and spent much of his spare time on the golf course, in the woods hunting or on the lake fishing.
He leaves many fond memories with his two daughters: Barb Lau of Woodbury and Jennifer Blume (Kyle Alfonse) of Cumberland; 4 grandchildren: Briana Blume, Faith Christensen, Rachel Christensen and Dylan Alfonse; sisters: Chris (Tom) Schroeder and Eileen (Tom) Statton, both of Cumberland; nephew, Steve Schroeder; nieces: Carrie Herman and Jill Brillhart; great nieces and nephew, cousins and many friends. Dick was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Tom.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church - Shell Lake with Father Bala Showry officiating and burial with full military honors to follow at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Serving as urn bearers are Dwight and Barb Buller. Honorary pallbearers are his golf buddies. Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at Skinner Funeral Home - Cumberland from 4:00 - 7:00 and for one hour before the service on Wednesday, January 9, 2019.
