In Memory of Dennis Steinberger


December 12, 1942 - February 27, 2019

Dennis Lee Steinberger went to his heavenly home on Feb. 27, 2019. He was born on Dec. 12, 1942 and baptized in Alhambra, CA where his father served in the U.S. Army. He grew up in New Richmond, WI and was confirmed at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. He was a member of the NRHS Class of 1960. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during the Cuban Missile Crisis on board ship with the USS Fiske DDR 842. His 4-year enlistment took him to many interesting places around the world.

After his Navy service, he was employed by Fabri-Tech in Amery where he met the love of his life, Barbara Greene and married her on April 21, 1966. They lived in many places in WI and MN. They finally moved to Illinois when he was relocated with Sperry Univac/Unisys where he was employed for 34 years in many capacities until 2002.

Denny was a family man who loved his children and was an active participant in their lives. For 6 years he coached his son’s baseball and flag football teams and proudly told of all their adventures. He was also very proud of his daughter and all her accomplishments. His grandchildren meant the world to him and talked about everyone of them with so much love.

Denny retired to Chetek, WI where he loved fishing and tinkering in his workshop, watching the Green Bay Packers, and playing cards with his family and the Texas Hold’em family group where he made the revolving trophy. He was a very proud veteran and was a member of the New Richmond American Legion Post 80 and the Chetek Lions Club. He was also a member and served as an Elder of the Christ Lutheran Church of Pipe Lake in rural Comstock.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara and his parents, Lee and Alberta Steinberger, and brother-in-law Jim Venhor. He is survived by his children: David Steinberger of Chetek and Lynette (Kevin) Marshall of Rice Lake; grandchildren: Troy (Erin) Switzer of Marshall, IL, Theresa Steinberger of Lima, OH, Samantha (Rob Wagner) Switzer of Indianapolis, IN, Stuart (Dani) Marshall and Laura (Simon) King, all of the UK; great grandchildren: Madelyn McNeely, Lyla and Alice King; 3 sisters: Sandra Venhor, Susan (Tom) Lorch, Debra (Scott) Mealey all of New Richmond and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 3, at 1:00 PM following a one hour visitation, both at the Christ Lutheran Church of Pipe Lake. Burial with full military honors will be held immediately after the service in the church cemetery.
