In Memory of David Marshall Kleven


July 31, 1930 - December 9, 2018

David Marshall Kleven, 88, of Long Lake died Sunday, December 9, 2018 at Maple Ridge Health Care Center. He was born July 31, 1930 in Rice Lake, WI to Torger and Marie (Lee) Kleven. Dave graduated from Rice Lake High School in 1948 and soon after served in the Marine Corps for 3 years during the Korean Conflict.

Dave returned to the Long Lake area and worked construction with his father and brother Gordy. He was married in Grace Lutheran Church - Brill on May 14, 1960 to Elsie Weber. Shortly after, they founded Dave's Outboard on Long Lake, which he operated until selling to his son in 1996. Dave took roughly "16" fishing and hunting trips to Alaska with friends and family. He stayed living and helping with the business all while taking advantage of everything Long Lake had to offer. Dave was a life member of the Haugen American Legion, a past president and member of the Long Lake Area Chamber of Commerce and a founding and life member of the Brill Area Sportsmans' Club.

He is survived by his children: Jim (Twyla) Kleven of Sarona and Nancy Baker of Spooner; grandchildren: Kalli, Shawny, Tanner, Bailey and Talyn; great grandchidren: Matthew Fellman, Athena and Zinah Baker; nieces, nephews and cousins. Dave was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie; grandson, Nicholas Fellman; siblings: Torger, Larry, Gordon and Lorna. 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, December 13, 2018 at Long Lake Lutheran Church with Pastor Mary Strom officiating. Burial with full military honors accorded by the Haugen American Legion will be at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers are Gary Weber, Bruce Kleven, Tanner Kleven, Andy Hagen, Paul Jaeger and Rob Duncan. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 on Wednesday evening at the Skinner Funeral Home in Rice Lake and for 1 hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church.
