Darlene R. Walter, age 64, of Stone Lake, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at Hayward Area Memorial Hospital.

She was born on October 3, 1958 in St. Cloud, Minnesota, the daughter of Morris and Ester (Morris) Oldenburg. She was united in marriage to Gary Wayne Walter on September 8, 1979 in Stone Lake, WI.

Darlene graduated from Hayward High School with the class of 1978. She worked as a cook for Pine Ridge Restaurant for several years and delivered Meals on Wheels to folks in the surrounding area. She enjoyed the nature around her home and spent a lot of time watching the birds, butterflies, and squirrels. After suffering a stroke, one of Darlene’s favorite activities was playing solitaire on her computer. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and a dedicated homemaker.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 43 years, Gary Walter of Stone Lake; her sons, Bryan (Erin) Walter and Adam Walter both of Stone Lake; her grandsons, Levi and Keith Walter and Austin and Tristan Ozee; her brothers, Doug Oldenburg, David Oldenburg, and Darrell “Smitty” (Melody) Oldenburg; her sister, Donna Mitchell; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

In addition to her parents, Darlene is preceded in death by her daughter, Chris Lee Walter, and her sister, Diane Malone.

A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at Stone Lake Wesleyan Church, 16838 W. First Street in Stone Lake, where visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of the service. Pastor Tim Young will officiate. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
