In Memory of Daniel Heidtke
On November 2nd, 2020 at the age of 56, Daniel William Heidtke passed away in his home. He was born September 2nd, 1964 in Bloomer Wisconsin. Dan lived a gratified life and experienced many adventures during his journey.
Dan was a successful athlete, an Army veteran, and an avid hunter and fisherman who cared greatly for his dogs and was kept busy by the other numerous hobbies that sparked his passions. Dan was a fierce competitor in all endeavors.
Dan’s life was not free from adversity. Dan lost his legs in an auto accident at age 25 which changed the direction of his life. After the accident, he tackled the challenges of a paraplegic with his typical gusto and fortitude. He guaranteed his doctors he would be out deer hunting in November while recovering from his September hospitalization. He then pursued an education at the University of Minnesota where he studied engineering and mathematics. He involved himself with wheelchair baseball, basketball, and sportfishing. This was especially prominent in his work with the Paralyzed Veterans of America to manage the Bass Tour tournaments, also helping to create opportunities and advocacy for other paralyzed veterans.
Dan was passionate about his community, and spent years working with the Village of Radisson government, where he owned a home. Dan will be remembered for the things he loved in life; good friends, good food, and making lifetime memories.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bud (Emil) and Janet Heidtke. He is survived by his siblings; Lois (New Braunfels, TX), Peter (Dallas, TX), Heidi Wright (AK), Joann (Radisson, WI) and nephews: Franc Wright, Alfred Wright, and Derek Heidtke.
In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to the Paralyzed Veterans of America. Website - secure.pva.org/pva/donate-now.
There will be a memorial/farewell at Dan’s house, 3686 N. Ogden Avenue, Radisson on Sunday, November 8th from 2 – 4 p.m. During the first hour we will be doing a service and sharing of memories.
