In Memory of Dan B. Dahlstrom
Dan Burt Dahlstrom, age 75, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at his residence in Hayward, WI.
He was born on January 27, 1949 in Flint, MI, the son of Burt and Nancy (Weaver) Dahlstrom.
He was united in marriage to Alletia Bernadina Brestan on October 25, 1975 in Northlake, IL.
Dan graduated from Fenton High School in Bensenville, IL and upon graduation he joined the U.S. Air Force. After finishing Jet Aircraft Maintenance School, his orders took him overseas to Takhli AFB in Thailand, where he served with the 333 Tactical Fighter Squadron during the Vietnam War. His overseas tours also landed him in Spain. Dan would later join Company B of the Wisconsin Army National Guard’s 724th Engineer Battalion in Hayward where he would finish a military career spanning over 23 years. He was a lifetime member of Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 130 and an active member of American Legion Post 218 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7233. Dan was a past post adjutant, past county adjutant and helped with various functions including Legion Honor Guard and parades. He received the Hayward Area Veteran of the Year award in 2019, an honor he and his family were very proud of.
Dan drove tractor-trailer for Schneider National, Kehe Foods, Hayward Dimensions, Streator Underground (former 5RK Sheep Ranch) for over twenty years. He had also worked for Round Lake Industries and the Hayward Sports Center. He loved the Northwood’s and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Most of all, Dan was a loving family man who worked tirelessly to take care of those he held dear.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Alletia Dahlstrom of Hayward, WI; his daughters, Helen (Brett) Kenmotsu of Oswego, IL, Nancy Dahlstrom of Shell Lake, WI and Lisa (Jason) Ludwikowski of Hayward, WI; his grandchildren, Mya Loren and Faith and Jill Kenmotsu; and a great-grandson, Finley Loren; his sisters, Sharon Rueckemann and Terry Dahlstrom both of Pingree Grove, IL; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hayward, where visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of Mass. Interment with military honors will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Hayward.
In lieu of flowers, we are asking instead for donations to be made in Dan’s honor to Hayward Veterans Center.
