In Memory of Colleen Thoreson


January 10, 1937 - November 14, 2019

Colleen Marie Thoreson, 82, passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2019, at Maple Ridge Care Center in Spooner, Wisconsin.

Colleen was born on January 10, 1937, in St. Cloud, Minnesota, to Palmer and Mildred (Hardin) Dooley.  She grew up in Minneapolis and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1955.  She married Huey Janz in 1956 and they had a daughter, Shelia, in 1957 and a son, Hugh, in 1958.  She worked for the USDA from 1960-1965, Control Data from 1965-1981, Elna INTL from 1982-1994, and Quality Assured Label from 1994 until her retirement in 2002.  Colleen married David Thoreson in February of 1976.  She lived in the same home in Richfield, Minnesota, for 40 years.  She was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church for 42 years, and of Faith Lutheran Church in Spooner, Wisconsin.  They enjoyed traveling, camping, and fishing.  They moved to their home in Madge in 2002.  She was a member of The Fraternal Order of Eagles #34 in Minneapolis and enjoyed quilting, crocheting, knitting, and genealogy.

Colleen is survived by her husband, David Thoreson, of Madge; four daughters, Sheila (Henry) Fritchman of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Valerie Pogue of Wanamingo, Minnesota, Paula (Steven) Lapka of Wahpeton, North Dakota, and Amy (Merrill) Erdman of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, three sons, Hugh (Christina) Janz of Sturgeon Lake, Minnesota, Jeff (Shelly) Nelson of Hastings, Minnesota, and Aaron (Karla) Thoreson of Madison, Wisconsin; sixteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; one sister, Patsy Fahnberg of Bloomington, Minnesota, and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Michael Dooley.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2019. at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Spooner, Wisconsin, with Pastor Brent Berkesch officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial will be at a later date at Madge Evergreen Cemetery.
