In Memory of Chester Peterson

March 12, 1930 - May 27, 2021

Chester (Chet) Peterson, 91, of Spooner Wi passed away on May 27, 2021, at the Shell Lake Healthcare Center.

Chet was born March 12, 1930 to John and Jesse Peterson in Webster WI.

Chet went to school at the Gaslyn Creek School until he was needed to care for his dad and run the family farm. After his dad passed away Chet and his mom would eke out a living by cutting pulp wood, farming and selling lumber that Chet and his uncles would cut on their sawmill. He married June Harmon in 1952 and after briefly working at Fairbanks Morse in Beloit WI they moved back to Spooner Wi and built the home that he lived in until his stay at the nursing home. Chet started building bridges and roads, which he would love in later years to drive and show people his handiwork. After his son Donnie was born in 1953 and daughter April in 1958 he didn’t want to be on the road away from his family so he started working for the City of Spooner. Construction being in his blood he would continue to do home improvements for people on the side. After his retirement from the city he could be found at his old homestead sawing lumber with his son Donnie as the tail sawyer. Chet loved hunting and fishing and would share his many stories about fishing in Canada. Chet loved to volunteer whether church, fire department, rodeo or just someone that needed a hand. He loved helping with the Spooner Rodeo and would be the go to guy if a tool was needed on a work night or during the rodeo because he kept his pickup well equipped. Chet and June were happily married for 61 years before June passed away from cancer.

Chet was predeceased by his parents, brother Robert and sister Bertha and wife June.

He is survived by son Donnie Peterson, daughter April (Kevin) Morse and four grandchildren and four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and friend Dorothy.

Funeral services for Chet Peterson will be held on Friday, June 4, 2021, at 10am, at the Spooner Funeral Home with visitation from 9-10.

Visitation will also be held on Thursday, June 3, 2021, from 4-7pm, at the Spooner Funeral Home.

Interment will be at the Spooner Cemetery.
