In Memory of Cheryl J. Hotchkiss


April 26, 1958 - December 1, 2022

Cheryl Jean Hotchkiss, age 64, a resident of the Town of Dewey, Shell Lake, Wisconsin, died on Thursday, December 1, 2022, at her home.

Cheryl was born April 26, 1958, in Grantsburg, Wisconsin to parents Laurence and Doris (Engebretson) Nelson.

She grew up on the family farm with horses and cattle and was involved in 4-H while in school and later in life with her children. She graduated from Grantsburg High School in 1976. On December 20, 1980, Cheryl was united in marriage to Scotty Hotchkiss in Pine City, Minnesota. The couple made their home in Shell Lake where they had a beef farm until 2002. Cheryl was a CNA in Cumberland and Grantsburg for several years, and later worked as the Family Advocate/ Coordinator for the Head Start Program for over 20 years. Cheryl was on the Webster Fair Board and took great pride in her garden and the flowers that she grew.

Cheryl is survived by her daughters Kimberly (Aaron) Graves, Kristi (Jay) Foust, Megan (Billy) Hotchkiss; her grandchildren, Ethan, Jaelyn, Gage, Abigail, Hannah, Jacob, and Isaac; sisters and sister-in-law: twin sister Charlene (Donald) Strabel, Cindy (Jerry) Olson, Annette Nelson, Julie (Paul) Uhren, Tammi (John) Perkins, Jenny (John) Oxley, and many, many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

She was proceeded in death by her husband Scotty in 2020, father Laurence, mother Doris, stepmother Collene, brother Laurel, and niece Donna Strabel.

Funeral Services for Cheryl will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2022, at 1pm at the Spooner Funeral Home with Minister Gene Olson officiating. Visitation will be at the Funeral Home on Saturday from 11-1pm. Interment will follow at the Lorraine Cemetery near Indian Creek, Wisconsin.

Casket bearers will be Charles Strabel, Mitchell Olson, Paul Nelson, Julie Uhren, John Oxley, Ethan Foust, Cory Hutton, and Billy Oglesby. Honorary casket bearers will be John Perkins, Sue VanMeter, Nan Erickson, and, Dean Nelson.
