In Memory of Charles Shell


November 20, 1934 - August 29, 2021

Charles “Charlie” Eugene Shell, age 86, passed away Sunday August 29, 2021 at Mayo Health in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

He was born November 20, 1934 in Papillion, NE, the son of Arthur and Stella (Kingery) Shell.

He was united in marriage to Verna Lee Pfeiffer on January 11, 1958 at the Community Bible Church in Cedar Lake, IN.

Charlie proudly served his country in the United States Airforce in Okinawa, Japan, during the Korean War. He loved music and could play most any instrument by ear. He played in churches, music festivals, and nursing homes all over the area. He and Verna hosted a Gospel Bluegrass festival at their home for several years. He was an extremely hard worker who always had more than one job to take care of his family. Most of all, Charlie was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Verna Shell of Spooner, his children, Valaurie Hedrick of Spooner, Clint Shell of Spooner and Cass (Becki) Shell of Warrens; his grandchildren, Danielle (Kevin) Angove, Forest (Kassie) Shell, Amanda (Joven) Mough, Zella Jeweleeann (Wes) Wilson and Adam (Kayty) Shell; great-grandchildren, Blake Angove, Dawson and Braelyn Shell, and Amaziah Mough; his sister, Lois Jean Carnes of Cedar Lake, IN; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

In addition to his parents, Charlie is preceded in death by his brothers, Arthur and Ricky Shell; and his sister, Kay Dilly.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 3, 2021 at 12:00 noon at the Spooner Funeral Home, 306 Rusk Street in Spooner, where visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. until the hour of the service. His son, Pastor Cass Shell will officiate.

Interment with military honors will follow at 2:00 P.M. at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner. A luncheon will follow at 3:00 P.M. at the Spooner Veterans Hall.
