In Memory of Charles J. Paffel

July 26, 1926 - August 21, 2018

July 26, 1926 - August 21, 2018

Charles was born into the family of Karl and Sophia (Sophie) Paffel and was one of seven children with three brothers and three sisters.  Charles was raised on a Farm as so many born in his era with many stories of lots of hard work but he also seemed to find some time for shenanigans.

Charles always loved his Family – Friends and Fun.  One of his favorite stories was of going to the “Free Movies” and finding the woman for him!  Helen Austin became not only his sweetheart from their movie days, she joined him in marriage on July 7, 1945.

Charles and Helen were blessed with six children- 3 boys and 3 girls – over a 16 year span.  Along with raising their children Charles and Helen had many relatives and friends that they enjoyed much dancing – playing cards – having picnics – traveling and simply socializing with- over the 64 years they spent together as husband and wife.  Charles had a passion for hunting and fishing with family members, and deer season was his absolute favorite.

Charles worked for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad for 35 years and spent most of his life residing in Spooner, he also resided for many years in Altoona – with some time in Elroy and most recently in Shell Lake, Wisconsin.

Charles is survived by his six children: Douglas (Kandie) Paffel, Kathleen (Jerry) Fabert, Steven (Sue) Paffel, Debra (Craig) Finley, Jeffrey (Annette) Paffel and Joni (Tom) Christ.  Eighteen Grandchildren, Sixteen Great-Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Doyle, Merle, Laverne, sisters, Lorraine, Vivian, and Dorothy, loving wife Helen, and three grandchildren, Robert, Carol and William.
