In Memory of Carol Widlund


June 16, 1933 - May 24, 2021

Carol Marie (Sinclair Nelson) Widlund passed away on May 24, 2021 at her home in Fridley, Minnesota.

Carol was born on June 16, 1933 (a depression era baby) to Ralph and Florence (Hanson) Sinclair in rural Rice Lake, Wisconsin.

She attended Pleasant Hill, a one-room country school, and Barron High School, Class of 1951.

She married Wayne Nelson and they had a daughter, Patricia. They divorced after 22 years of marriage. She went on a blind date in 1972 and met Ron Widlund. They were married for 31 years before his death in 2014.

A Fridley, Minnesota resident since 1959, Carol loved crafts, estate and garage sales, and going to casinos. She held a boutique “Think Christmas” in her home for ten years with 50 crafters. Carol worked at the J.C. Penny credit department (Lake Street and Brookdale stores) for 20 years. She was known for her French Twist hair style and her collections of owls and lady head planters.

Carol is survived by her step-daughters, Heather Barrett and Dawn Collins, both of California; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Don Hesse; brothers, baby Ralph, Wendell (Madeline), Wilbur (Jane); sister, Marguerite (Howard) Wagenbach; and several kitties.

A funeral service for Carol Widlund will be held on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Barron with Rev. Mary Anne Conklin officiating. A visitation will be held from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. at the church before the service. Burial will be at Wayside Cemetery in Barron.

Memorials in her honor can be made to First United Methodist Church in Barron.
