In Memory of Carol Richter
Carol Frances Richter Age 94, of Rice Lake, WI died peacefully Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at Barron Care and Rehab in Barron, WI surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on January 14, 1925 in Superior, WI to Esten and Florence (Johnson) Gylland. She attended elementary at the Bryant school in South Superior and then graduated from the Superior Central High School in 1942 where she was a band member all 4 years playing the bass clarinet and the bell lyar. After graduating from high school she and 2 girlfriends went to Milwaukee and worked at International Harvester as a secretary. This was during the war and the company made ammunition for the armed forces. The 3 of them came back to Superior along with many servicemen in 1945. Her future husband was one of them and they met at a dance in Lake Nebagamon on the 4th of July in 1946. Their dads worked for the City of Superior where their families were acquainted. John was accepted as a student at Loyola University in Chicago and they were married on September 11, 1948 and their life began then. Carol had a secretarial job at the Curtis Candy Company and also a secretary at National Bank of Commerce for 2 years. Carol enjoyed being a homemaker, wife and mom. They acquired a winter home in Florida in 1992 and spent 22 winters there where John was an avid golfer and Carol enjoyed the warm weather and beaches and they both enjoyed line dancing and shuffleboard.
She is survived by her husband, John Richter of Rice Lake; 5 children, Janice Richter of Burnsville, MN, Jim (Heidi) Richter of Edina, MN, John Jr. (Bobby Jo) Hales Corners, WI, Connie (William) Fischer of New Berlin, WI and Patrick (Regina) Richter of Cameron, WI; 8 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Jerome Richter; her parents, Esten and Florence Gylland; a brother, James Gylland.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1PM Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rice Lake, Father Ed Anderson officiating, with interment in St. Joseph Cemetery in Rice Lake. Visitation will be held from 11AM-1PM Tuesday at the Church. Appleyard’s Home for Funerals in Rice Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
