In Memory of Carol Ann Mott

July 19, 1936 - January 23, 2019

Carol Mott, 82, of Hayward-Bass Lake Wisconsin, died Wednesday at St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth, after a stroke.

Carol Ann Carter was born in Sterling Illinois, daughter of Sterling William Carter and Mary Anna Carter (nee Fritz). She graduated from Sterling High School in 1954, and then attended the Rockford Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, becoming a registered nurse in 1957. Around that time she met David Harcourt Mott on a blind date, and married him on September 20, 1958. They settled in Rockford Illinois, where she pursued her nursing career and raised their family. She worked at Rockford Memorial, Saint Anthony, and Swedish American hospitals, and other positions in private medical practices. The family moved to Scituate Massachusetts in 1976, where she worked at South Shore Hospital, as well as in mental health and private duty positions. In 1989 she and David moved to Hayward-Bass Lake, and built a house on Lac Court Oreilles. She continued her career working in public health at the LCO Clinic, where she finally retired from nursing in 2016 after several attempts – they kept calling her back.

Carol was actively involved with church throughout her life. She was confirmed and married at St. John's Lutheran Church in Sterling. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Rockford, where she sang in the choir. She attended United Church of Christ in Norwell Massachusetts. She belonged to Hayward United Methodist Church, singing in the choir, and volunteering in a number of activities and committees there.

For the past ten years she volunteered for Hayward Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed cross country skiing in the Hayward area, daily walks, was an avid bridge player, and after a long struggle, ultimately prevailed at gardening.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and by her sisters Joyce Welch and Linda Morehu. She is survived by David, her husband of 60 years; brother Charles Carter of DeForest WI; sister Meredith Handel (Larry) of Rancho Santo Margarita CA; sons Peter Mott (Elizabeth Pelcyger) of Washington DC and Andrew Mott (Laurie) of Beverly MA; and grandchildren Eric, Ivan, Theodore, Beatrice, and Mathilda.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at Greenwood Cemetery in Hayward.  A celebration of life service will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be directed to Hayward United Methodist Church.
