In Memory of Calvin W. Rohde
Calvin W. Rohde, 79, of Cumberland, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 2 surrounded by his family.
Calvin was born on January 15, 1945, in Barron to Walter & Charlotte (Buckner) Rohde. He graduated in 1963 from Barron High School where he met his wife, Sandra Lane. Calvin and Sandra were married in Rice Lake on September 12, 1964.
They lived in Rice Lake where Calvin worked at Gustafson Creamery. In 1967, Calvin and Sandra moved to Buffalo, Minnesota where they managed a dairy farm. In 1971, they returned to the home farm and started a partnership, Rohde Brothers, with Calvin’s brother, Melvin (Mick) where he was a dairy farmer until his retirement in 1999. Even in retirement he could be found on a tractor helping whenever possible.
Calvin enjoyed playing cards and was part of a local card party for years. He also was always willing to go to the casino and could be found there often. In recent years he enjoyed playing Farkle & Yahtzee, particularly when he was winning.
Calvin is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sandra (Lane) Rohde; 8 children, Theresa (Bob) Zappitello, Sharon (Gwen) Rohde, Kevin (Joanna) Rohde, Heather Rohde, Heidi Rohde, Christina Saffert, Rochelle Rohde, and Ryan Rohde; 18 grandchildren, Bethany, Nicole, Sam, Sarah, Lauren, Alyssa, Alex, Shelby, Ben, Garrette, Racheal, Savannah, Quentin, Paisley, Georg, Bryce, Grayce, Brayden; 1 great-grandchild, Rae; brother, Melvin Rohde; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Charlotte Rohde; sister, Darlene Gudmundson; and brother, Norman Rohde.
A Celebration of Life gathering is being held at Rausch & Steel Funeral Home in Barron on Sunday, April 7 from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m.
