In Memory of Boyd Zappa

August 28, 1938 - November 19, 2020

Boyd Phillip Zappa, 82, of Comstock passed away at his home peacefully surrounded by his family, November 19, 2020. He was born August 28, 1938 in Cumberland, WI to Julian and Esther Zappa. Boyd was the oldest of seven children.

Boyd grew up working on his family and neighbors’ farms. He learned at a very young age the meaning of hard work. He graduated from Cumberland High School in 1956 and was married to Karen Kohn on March 16, 1963. Boyd and Karen moved from Wisconsin to St. Paul, Minnesota. He was a Teamster of the Local 120 for 34 years. Boyd’s garage in St. Paul was the focal point of the neighborhood. Whether it was advice on cars, jokes or drinking Schmitty’s everyone has a memory. During this time he also successfully cured the neighborhood of its squirrel problems. He was known for being very meticulous in keeping his tools in order, a skill that is still carried out by his children. He loved to listen to music, dance and tell stories from the past. Most of all he enjoyed watching the lake from his “spot” at the cabin, and spending time with his family. He was truly one of a kind and will be greatly missed by many.

He is survived by his wife: Karen (Comstock); children: Brian (Sandra) Zappa and Sandra (fiancé Kevin Johnson) Pizzuti; grandchildren: Trisha (Neal) Andrews, Travis Zappa, Dominic Pizzuti, Anthony Pizzuti, and Nicco Pizzuti; great granddaughter, Mia Andrews; sisters: Esther Zappa, Janice Flores, Kathy Zappa, and Diane Barr. He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings: Eugene Zappa and Mike Zappa.

Funeral services will be held at a later date.

Skinner Funeral Home of Turtle Lake is serving the family.

The Zappa family would like to thank the staff of Lakeview Medical Center Hospice for their support and kindness.
