In Memory of Betty M. Tasker


June 6, 1927 - March 29, 2024

Betty Marie Tasker Age 96, of Rice Lake, WI, died Friday, March 29, 2024 in Rice Lake surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on June 6, 1927 in West Salem, WI to William and Mary (Liebel) Achterkirch.

Betty graduated from West Salem High School and attended UW Stout where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Home Economics. She met the love of her life, John Bruce Tasker, while teaching Home Economics in Gilman WI and they were later married on February 24, 1951. Betty and Bruce relocated to Rice Lake where she taught Home Economics for many years. Betty continued her education and received her Master Degrees from UW Eau Claire in Special Education and Learning Disabilities. She taught special education and the learning disabled at the Rice Lake High School until her retirement. Betty's life-long passion was educating and serving children, adults and her community. Betty was an active member of the Catholic Women's Guild and spent years and countless hours volunteering. Her love and care for children extended beyond her immediate family. Her home was a place where all were welcome, laughter was plentiful, and no one ever left hungry. Betty enjoyed sewing, gardening, baking, quilt making, and loved to shop.

She is survived by 6 children, Thomas Bruce (Faith) Tasker, James Tasker, Patricia (Todd) Mandel, Terryl (Patrick) Schulte, Sheryl Tasker, and Katie Tasker; 17 grandchildren, Timothy (Mike), Seth, Todd, Bryce, Afton, Kristine (Darren), Daina (Dustin), Colin, Elayna, Hanna, Hunter, Kora, Kolton, Travis (Sarah), Dalen, Darryl, and Katelyn; 5 great grandchildren; a sister, Charlotte Vitale; 3 brothers, William Achterkirch, Robert Achterkirch and Archie (Penny) Achterkirch; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Bruce Tasker; her parents; 2 sisters, Shirley Blaschke and Lorraine Langlois.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM, Saturday, April 6, 2024 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rice Lake, Father Adam Laski officiating, with interment in Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial in Spooner, WI. Visitation will be held from 9AM-11AM Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. We will be celebrating Betty's life with a luncheon at Kincaid's Country Inn located just outside of Rice Lake. All are welcome.

Appleyard’s Home for Funerals in Rice Lake, WI is assisting and serving the family with the arrangements.
