In Memory of Betty J. Christopherson

September 2, 1925 - October 21, 2023

Betty J. Christopherson, age 98, of Amery, Wisconsin, went home to her Lord and Savior on October 21, 2023, at Golden Age Manor in Amery.

Betty Joan Annette Anderson was born in Grantsburg, WI, on September 2, 1925, the third of five children born to Ernest and Hazel Anderson. She grew up on a farm in rural Grantsburg, and when she was 10 years old, the family moved to Upson, WI. She graduated from Hurley High School in 1942 at the age of 16.

After high school, Betty returned to Grantsburg and worked as a bookkeeper at Northwestern Electric Company. On November 16, 1945, Betty was united in marriage to Grant Christopherson in Hurley, WI. They were blessed with five children. They made their home in Grantsburg until 1965, when they moved to Amery. Betty enjoyed motherhood, and she became a Cub Scout den mother and served as a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher for many years. She had a deep faith in God which she passed on to her children. Betty held a variety of part-time jobs while raising her family, including working as a school secretary in Grantsburg, hand-tinting portraits for photographers, and as a bookkeeper at the Amery Ford Dealership.

Betty was gifted with many talents and had a lifelong love of learning. From a young age, she enjoyed music and art. She sang solos, was part of several trios, and was a member of a church choir most of her life. She also discovered her passion for painting in a variety of mediums. In 1975, she was introduced to China Painting, which led her to become an accomplished porcelain artist. She was self-taught in many areas and took courses in many more. In addition to art classes, as an adult she pursued advanced sewing, cake decorating, piano, accounting, and even driver’s education at almost 50 years of age.

In 2015, Betty moved to Eau Claire, WI, to live in an independent living apartment. She remained there for the next five years before moving to assisted living. After a recent hospitalization, she returned to Amery to live at Golden Age Manor.

Betty left a legacy of love, faith, and hospitality. She was a faithful member of Amery Free Lutheran Church for more than 40 years. She cherished each and every moment she could be with family and friends. Although she will be greatly missed, they rejoice in knowing that she is in her forever home with Jesus.

Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband of nearly 64 years, Grant; parents Ernest and Hazel Anderson; brothers Erwin (Bob), Wiloan (Bill), and Keith Anderson; sister Delanore Rogers; and grandson Brian Christopherson; as well as her parents-in-law, five brothers-in-law, and six sisters-in-law.

Betty is survived by her and Grant’s children: Dennis (Debbie) and Terry (Karen), both of Amery; Sandra (Wayne) Hanson of Eau Claire; Karen (Todd) Westlake of Rogers, MN; and Kevin (Marian) of McVille, ND. She is also survived by nine grandsons, six granddaughters, and 28 great-grandchildren, along with many grands-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

The Christopherson family would like to thank the entire staff at Grace Willowbrook Assisted Living in Eau Claire, WI, for their tender, loving care the past years; Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Eau Claire, especially Dr. Laura Bentley and Dr. Sunday Olatunji, for their compassionate care Golden Age Manor in Amery, WI; and Adoray Home Health and Hospice in Baldwin, WI, for their kind, gentle, and professional care during her final weeks of her earthly life; and to all her and our friends for their prayers and encouragement.

A Celebration of Life will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at Amery Free Lutheran Church, 647 113th Street, Amery, WI. Pastor Alan Arneson will officiate.
