In Memory of Betty A. Greene
Betty Ann Greene, 83 of the Chippewa Flowage, passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2024.
Betty was born at home in the Round Lake area on August 16, 1940, to Elizabeth and Stanley Jalowitz.
She was raised in the Hayward area, graduating from Hayward High School. On October 25, 1958, she was joined in marriage to David H. Greene, her life partner for 65 years. They started their family in Yakima, Washington and then moved back to the Hayward area. They opened D&B Bait & Tackle. They ran the Bait Shop for 55+ years. Betty became a pillar of the community, people loved to stop by and talk fishing, but most regulars stopped in just to see her. Betty was well respected by many and loved by even more. Those that knew her would tell you about her fiery personality and talent to call it like it is.
Betty truly loved the Northwoods and the many lakes in the area. She also loved her numerous pets from cats to dogs, even deer! She always kept several bird feeders as well to admire them through the seasons.
Betty is survived by her husband, David, their four children, Kathyrn (Charlie) Marks, Johnathan (Connie) Greene, Gerald Greene, Kimberly (Julie) Greene and grandchildren, Jesse, Alex, Johnathan, Ethan, Eva, step-grandchildren, Daniel, and Sande. Sister Kathryn (Tom) Liethen and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Betty is preceded in death by infant daughter, Heidi, brother, Jerry, and her parents.
Betty passed peacefully in her sleep as the sun rose, surrounded by those who loved her, and with many more present in spirit. With her goes an end of an era for her family, friends, and the many anglers that fish our lakes.
In accordance with Betty’s wishes, services will be private. The family asks for privacy in this time but wishes to thank everyone for their sincere condolences and support.
