In Memory of Bertha (Haupt) Hanson

May 6, 1952 - November 16, 2024

Bertha Hanson, age 72, a resident of the Town of Crystal, died at her home on Saturday, November 16, 2024.

Bertha was born on May 6, 1952, in Shell Lake, Wisconsin, to parents Carl and Inga (Hom) Haupt. She attended a one-room country school in the Town of Chicog, and later graduated from Spooner High School. She was working at the City Café in Spooner when she met David Hanson, who had just gotten home after serving in Vietnam. The couple later married on February 2, 1981. They built their home in the Town of Crystal in the early 1980’s which gave her plenty of yard to create her unique gardens. The couple leased the Country House Motel in Spooner for several years before she went to work in Housekeeping at the Hayward Casino for many years. Bertha loved creating gardens in her yard with rocks, antique farm equipment, and flowers. She grew a large vegetable garden every year and canned much of its yield along with the copious amounts of berries that she loved picking. She enjoyed going to garage sales and auctions, antiquing, but most of all spending time with her grandkids and her pets.

Bertha is survived by her husband David, sons: Eric Haupt of Trego, David (Rose) Hanson of Spooner, and Kyle Hanson of Denver, CO; 3 grandchildren: Lexy Johnson, Jeriah Hanson, and Micah Hanson; brothers and sisters: Carl (Karen) Haupt of Marion, WI, Diane (Gary) Scalzo of Spooner, WI, Doris Petrie of Minong, WI, and Raymond (Josie) Haupt of Trego, WI; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bertha is preceded in death by her parents; brothers and sisters: Harold, Darlene Curtis, LaVern, and Vernon; and stepfather Cecil Nelson.

A time of gathering for friends and family will be held on Tuesday, November 26, at the Spooner Funeral Home from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
