In Memory of Bernice Webster


April 6, 1922 - March 26, 2019

Bernice Webster, age 96, of Hayward, died Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at Water’s Edge Care Center in Hayward.

Bernice Grover was born April 6, 1922 in Whitefish, WI, the daughter of John Grover and Elizabeth Dingley. She attended Hayward Indian School, and Kinnamon School in Lac Courte Oreilles. Bernice moved to Milwaukee, WI where she met and was united in marriage to Donald John Webster. They moved to Modesto, CA with her children in 1965. There Bernice worked for Campbells Soup Company and Swanson’s Company, and was a member of the Teamsters Union. They lived there for 20 years, then Bernice returned to LCO where she worked as a cook for Reserve Elderly Center. Bernice was very active in her church and prayer group. She loved sewing, entertaining her family and friends. Bernice was the “backbone” of her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and Christian. Bernice was always clever, finding some way to keep the family together and was dearly loved by all.

She is survived by two sons Gordon (Sheila) Thayer and Donald John (Beverly) Webster; her daughter Jane Mitchell; 18 grandchildren Charlie and Robert Thayer, Rachel (James) Mlinarcik, Stephen, John, Otis, Steven, Eddie and Jessica Thayer, Tyler Guibord, Michelle Hollen, Sonja and Michael Webster, Danyelle Gilbert, Jennifer Garcia, and Matthew, Lisa and Marty Mitchell; many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces.

 Bernice was preceded in death by her parents John and Elizabeth; husband John; and sons Lynn Thayer & Howie Webster; daughter Aletha Thayer; 13 brothers & sisters.

The Funeral Service will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at LCO Assembly of God Church in Signor. Rev. Gordon Thayer will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 2nd at the church, and again from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. prior to the service on Wednesday at the church.

Honorary casket bearers will be Tyler Guibord, Jordan Kleven, Marty Mitchell, Otis Thayer, Steven Thayer and Donald John Webster.

Casket bearers will be Matt Mitchell, Charlie Thayer, John Thayer, Robbie Thayer, Stephen Thayer and Mike Webster.
