In Memory of Barbara Tempesta


July 24, 1931 - May 21, 2019

Barbara Ann Tempesta, 87, of Cumberland passed away peacefully on May 21, 2019 at Care and Rehab-Cumberland in the company of her loving family. She was born July 24, 1931 in Cumberland, WI to Boyd and Ruth (Hilton) Hines. Her mother died when she was a small girl and her father married Helen Johnson. Barb graduated from Cumberland High School in 1949.  Barb was married in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Cumberland on September 6, 1952 to Jerry Tempesta. After his service in the Korean War, Barb worked so that Jerry could attend Marquette Dental School. She worked for Jerry as an assistant when he started his practice and maintained his books for his dental practice over 30 years. They also bought a farm outside Cumberland for riding horses and Arabian horses for show.   Barb had a deep love for her pets and animals, entertaining at the lake, snowmobiling, fishing, golfing in the women's league, playing cards, puzzles and reading. She was also active within her community. She and her husband, Jerry, were awarded Citizens of the Year in 2000 by the Cumberland Chamber of Commerce.

She leaves many fond memories with her husband, Jerry of Cumberland; her son, James of Cumberland; grandchildren: Alec and Jillian Tempesta of Minneapolis, MN; her sister, Phyllis Harrison of Brainerd, MN; 3 brothers: Gene Hines of Cumberland, Ben (Edna) Hines of Cumberland and Jim (Jackie) Hines of Shafer, MN; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Boyd, mother, Ruth, step-mother, Helen Hines, and brother, Bruce (Esther) Hines.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM Friday, June 14, 2019 at St. Anthony Catholic Church  with Father Tom Thompson officiating and burial to follow in St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass.
