Barbara Joan Swearingen, age 84, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 27, 2018 at Indianhead Medical Center in Shell Lake, WI. She was born May 15, 1933 in Berwyn, Illinois, the daughter of Richard and Julia (Pecina) Vesely. She attended York High School, in Elmhurst, IL, before moving to Hertel, WI, when her parents purchased the Hertel Store. She graduated from Spooner High with the class of 1951. She was united in marriage to Darrell Swearingen on June 12, 1954, in Frederic, WI.

Barb loved to travel ... having made two trips to Europe. One of her favorite travel destinations was the beach in North Carolina. Barb was quite proud of having visited all fifty states.

She loved researching our family history and genealogy in general, searching through countless historical records and visiting cemeteries. She also helped others search for information about their family history.

Barb is survived by her children, son, Dave Swearingen (Crystal) of Shell Lake, WI and her daughters JoAnn (Rick) Moore of Bruce, WI and Pat (Dick) Greene of Bradyville, TN. She was the proud grandmother of Jennifer (Eddie), Nicole (Steve), Amanda, Samantha (Tyler), Britty and Hali. She was the great-grandmother of Arianna, Caprice, Emily, Max, McKenzie, Brooklyn and Peri. She is also survived by her brother Richard Vesely (Tim) of Mobile, AL and many dear friends.

In addition to her parents, Barbara is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Darrell and her sister, MaryAnn Chelmo.

Interment will be held privately in Lakeview Cemetery in Hertel, WI.
