In Memory of Audrey M. Yunker

June 9, 1939 - October 19, 2024

Audrey Mae Yunker, was born June 9, 1939, and passed away October 19, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. Audrey was born on a farm in Horse Creek, Wisconsin. Audrey, the youngest daughter of Roy and Emma (Berquam) Norlander, grew up in Dresser, Wisconsin, and attended St. Croix Falls High School where she met the love of her life, Bruce Yunker. They married on Pearl Harbor Day, December 7, 1957—which Bruce often joked was “the day everything went to hell.”

Together, they raised four sons—Jeff, Joel, Jay, and James.

Early in the marriage Audrey attended cosmetology school in St. Paul MN, where she perfected the “bowl” haircut which the boys laugh about to this day. Audrey dedicated her life to being a stay-at-home mom, nurturing her family with love and the warmth of her kitchen. An avid cook, Audrey was especially known for her homemade lefsa, potato sausage and strawberry jam, which her family and friends treasured.

Her married life began in a small trailer home with her young boys, and she built a life full of rich experiences, laughter, and cherished memories. She was a big part of Bruce’s plumbing business and did the bookkeeping.

Audrey’s sense of adventure was evident in her love for travel, especially her many tours and cruises of Europe and Alaska. She found joy in snowmobiling, especially at the deer shack, fishing at her beloved Hayward lake home, and bowling. An avid card player, Audrey spent countless hours with friends playing pinnacle, euchre, and cribbage. Audrey will be remembered for her love of family, the outdoors, her dog, Lena, the Green Bay Packers, and the simple joys that made her life so meaningful.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bruce and her siblings, Helen, Donald, and Lois. She is survived by her sons Jeffery (Christine) Yunker, Grand Forks, North Dakota, Joel (Maureen) Yunker, St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin, Jay (Tara) Yunker, Milton, Wisconsin, James (Angela) Yunker, Stillwater, Minnesota, and eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at the Grandstrand Funeral Home in Osceola, Wisconsin. Visitation one hour prior. Happy Hour at the Dallas House will follow immediately following the service.

Memorials in lieu of flowers can be sent to Moments Hospice of Golden Valley and The Ronald McDonald House Charities, Upper Midwest Area.
