In Memory of Alfred Borchardt
Alfred R. Borchardt, age 84, of Hayward, WI passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at Hayward Area Memorial Hospital.
Al Borchardt was born June 21, 1934 in Chicago, IL the son of Alfred and Martha (Parpart) Borchardt Sr. He was raised in Chicago and graduated from the Luther Institute High School in Chicago in 1952. For a short time he worked as a technician for Trans World Airlines before going to work for National Cash Register. Al’s work as a cash register technician took him from Chicago to Atlanta, GA and finally Duluth, MN. On December 23, 1965 Alfred was joined in marriage to Joyce Harper in Chicago. Al and Joyce purchased Breezy Pines Family Resort in grand Rapids, MN which they operated for six years. Al and Joyce moved to Portland, Maine where Al became a Quality Assurance Technician for Burnham and Morrill Baked Beans Company. While working his job he was also very active with purchasing and remodeling homes. He worked there until his retirement in 1994. After retirement, Al and Joyce moved to Hayward, WI where they purchased their home on Sabin Road. One of Al’s legacies is that he introduced the joy of fishing to many friends and family members. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, home remodeling, winters, watching the Chicago Blackhawks, NASCAR and Indy Racing. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hayward.
Al is survived by his children, Mark Borchardt of Vancouver, WA, Martha Franklin of Tucson, AZ, Kurt (Michelle) Borchardt of Portland, OR; six grandsons; two sisters, Carol Borchardt of Madisonville, KY, Lois (Tom) Blumhorst of Puyallup, WA; brother-in-law, Bob Hames of Northbrook, IL; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 52 years, Joyce; and one sister, Norma Hames.
A memorial service celebrating Al’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 14th, at Calvary Baptist Church near Seeley, WI. A time of gathering will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the church.
