In Memory of Albert Tomesh


October 8, 1926 - October 3, 2019

Albert (Alby/Sam) Frederick Tomesh, 92 of Rice Lake, WI passed away peacefully Thursday, October 3, 2019 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Alby was born October 8, 1926 to Vaclav and Ludmilla (Holec) Tomesh on the family farm in Oak Grove township. He attended Sunnyside School and Rice Lake High School, Class of 1944. On June 19, 1952 he married Regina Ann Uchytil at Holy Trinity Church in Haugen. During their 67 years of marriage, they raised eight children on their dairy farms in the Haugen and Brill areas with the last one known as “Eight is Enough Acres”. In addition to farming, he worked at Lapacinski Farms and the Brill Feed Mill. He was elected to serve on Barron County’s ASCS, Oak Grove Town Board for 20 years, Brill Creamery Board of Directors and Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Council. Alby was an avid fan of the Packers, Brewers, Brill Millers, Dobie Inn Fast Pitch, Brill Area Sportsman’s Club, and he loved hunting and fishing with his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. He played dartball for 52 years and always looked forward to a game of cards and a cold beer with family. In 1996, after retiring from farming, Albert and Regina purchased Sam’s Place Resort on Long Lake and enjoyed summers sharing the lake with family and long-time resort patrons. Along with hunting trips out west, he traveled five times to visit relatives in his heritage country of Czech Republic and one trip to Denmark to attend the wedding of his Danish son (Anders), an exchange student from 1980. In 2016, Albert and Regina purchased a fishing cabin in Ontario, Canada known as “Sam’s North” and they enjoyed many fishing trips with family and friends. They took several winter family trips to beautiful resorts in Mexico.

He is survived by his wife, Regina; six sons Jerry (Brenda) of Chippewa Falls, Gene (Cindy), David (Mary), Ken (Janet), Mark (Chris) of Rice Lake, and Richie of Spooner; two daughters Mary Lou (Paul) Lemens of Kenosha and Kathy (Jeff) White of Shawano; 22 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one brother Tony (Adeline); and two sister-in-laws Virginia and Rose Tomesh; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Trapper Tomesh; four brothers Jim, John, Joe, and Rudy, and four sisters, Mary Kubista, Lillian Dvorak-Kodesh, Dorothy Schwab, and Martha Tomesh.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Dobie. Visitation will be held Monday, October 7, 2019 at Appleyard’s Home for Funerals in Rice Lake, WI from 4:00-7:00 p.m. and one hour before the service at the church. There will be a Wake Service at 7PM Monday at Appleyard’s Home for Funerals.
