Adeline “Jo” McManus, age 90, of Rice Lake, (formerly of Barron) passed away on Monday, April 1, 2024.

She was born on June 24, 1933 to David and Nora (Everson) Hargrave. She was married to Verlyn (Dern) McManus on April 29, 1954.

She enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, canoeing and cooking with her family. She fulfilled a life long dream of owning and running the Hitch’n Post Restaurant in Ridgeland.

In retirement, they traveled to Arizona and wintered there for 11 years.

She resided at Vita Care Living in Rice Lake for the last 2 years.

Jo is survived by her daughters, Lou (Marilyn Larson) McManus of Rice Lake, Robyn (Chuck) Kasick of Hayward and Jodi (Greg) Lambert of Ridgeland;  grandchildren, Amanda (Steve) Rude, Melissa Berg (Cole Knutson), Chad Lambert and Casey Lambert; great-grandchildren, Brady Berg, Brenna Berg, Elijah Lambert and Ellie Jo West-Lambert; brothers, William (Kitty) Hargrave of Chetek and Howard (Kathryn) Hargrave of Mikana; sisters, Judy (Jerry) Gallimore of Monticello, Georgia and Peggy (John) Feldman of Wentville, Missouri; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; twin sister, Caroline Owens, sisters, Kathleen Glaze, Jeanette Retzloff, Betty Whitman, Marian Magnus and Ruthie Jagger; brothers, David “Junior” Hargrave and Gary Hargrave.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the Vita Care Staff and Heartland Hospice – you are all appreciated.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Rausch and Steel Funeral Home in Barron from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m.

Arrangements are being handled by Rausch and Steel Funeral Home in Barron.
