SAWYER COUNTY -- The Court has sentenced Kena Baird on drug convictions stemming from her arrest in March 2021.
In March 2021, DrydenWire reported that Baird was arrested following a traffic stop which led to the discovery of 394 grams of methamphetamine, 3.3 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, 4.1 grams of THC, and drug paraphernalia. The street value of the methamphetamine was approximately $39,000, according to the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office.
Online circuit court records show that at a hearing on March 22, 2021, the Court ordered a $50,000 cash bond for Baird and she remained in custody until her sentencing.
Charges were filed against Baird including Class C Felony Possess w/Intent-Amphetamine (>50g), Misdemeanor Possession of THC, and Misdemeanor Possess Drug Paraphernalia. At a plea hearing in December 2021, the Court accepted Baird’s plea of No Contest to her charge of Class C Felony Possess w/Intent-Amphetamine (>50g). The remaining charges against Baird were dismissed but read-in.
Baird appeared most recently on March 23, 2022 for a sentencing hearing on her conviction of Class C Felony Possess w/Intent-Amphetamine (>50g).
The Sawyer County District Attorney recommended a 10 year prison sentence for Baird, with 5 years initial confinement and 5 years extended supervision, sentence credit of 365 days for time already served. Defense counsel for Baird recommended an imposed and stayed sentence with probation and 365 days credit for time served.
The Hon. Steven Anderson ordered a 20-year imposed and stayed prison sentence; 10 years of initial confinement followed by 10 years extended supervision and 10 years of probation with credit for 365 days.

Conditions of probation will require Baird to complete an AODA assessment along with any counseling and programming deemed appropriate by her Department of Corrections agent and follow-through with recommendations.
She is prohibited from entering any establishments where the primary purpose is the sale of alcohol and she must maintain absolute sobriety.
