BURNETT COUNTY -- A Danbury, WI woman is facing child neglect and OWI charges following law enforcement’s investigation into a one-vehicle rollover crash that occurred on State Road 77 near Tower Road on October 15, 2021.
A criminal complaint has been filed against 22-year-old Delores Corbine, of Danbury, WI, charging her with two counts of Class I Felony Neglecting a Child; Misdemeanor Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated With Minor Child in the Vehicle; and Misdemeanor Obstructing an Officer following the investigation into the rollover crash.
Burnett County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch received a call on October 15, 2021, regarding the crash from a witness at the scene who stated that an adult female, an adult male, and two small children had been in the gray truck.
Deputies responded to the scene of the vehicle crash and located a gray truck lying on the driver’s side in the ditch. A witness told Deputies that the gray truck had been traveling eastbound when it appeared to lose control and slide into the westbound lane of traffic before traveling into the ditch and rolling over.
Inside the gray truck, Deputies located two child car seats and a diaper bag with diapers inside. Witnesses told Deputies that the occupants of the vehicle had left the scene, possibly fleeing into a wooded area near the crash scene.
Information obtained by the Deputies led to the determination that the occupants had been Richard Wylie, of Webb Lake, WI; and Delores Corbine, of Danbury, WI. Near the crashed truck, Deputies located a child’s pacifier or “Nuk” on the ground by an empty alcohol container, according to the criminal complaint.
Deputies searched the vicinity and checked the wooded area and found a small shirt and a child’s sock, but did not locate any people. Burnett County Dispatch received a series of calls over the next few hours stating that a male and female had been seen on property located on Red Fox Trail and that the subjects had fled towards Bass Lake. Shortly thereafter Dispatch received a call stating that a male and female were rowing a boat across Bass Lake. Dispatch then received a call that a male and female were seen running down a logging road towards Tower Road, and then shortly after that, received another call stating that a male and female were flagging down drivers on State Road 35 near the Fish Bowl bar. Deputies responded to the vicinity of each call but did not locate anyone immediately.
Approximately five (5) hours after the crash was reported, Law Enforcement located Corbine and Wylie with two small children, under the age of 3, in the ditch near State Road 35 just north of State Road 77. The criminal complaint filed against Corbine states that when Deputies located Corbine, Wylie, and the children, it was pitch black out, rainy and cold, with temperatures of around 40 degrees. However, Corbine, Wylie, and the children were not dressed appropriately for the weather. Neither child had a jacket or hat or socks on their feet. Corbine was wearing a cut-up shirt, shorts, and no shoes or socks. Wylie was wearing jeans, a shirt, and shoes.
When Deputies spoke with Corbine, she allegedly admitted to consuming alcohol in Superior, WI, and then driving the truck back to Burnett County, where she lost control of the truck, causing the crash.
The criminal complaint goes on to state that the children were medically cleared by emergency medical personnel and released to family members. Corbine and Wylie were both transported to Burnett Medical Center for medical care. A sample of Corbine’s blood was obtained and after both Corbine and Wylie were medically cleared, they were transported to the Burnett County Jail. Results of testing on Corbine’s blood sample were not included in the criminal complaint at the time of this post.
Online circuit court records show that Corbine appeared for a bail bond hearing on October 18, 2021, where the Court ordered a $500 cash bail bond which was posted a few days later. Conditions of her bond require Corbine to maintain absolute sobriety. Corbine is scheduled to make an adjourned initial appearance regarding her charges in November 2021.
Charges of Class I Felony Neglecting a Child; and Misdemeanor Obstructing an Officer have been filed against Wylie. He appeared for a hearing on October 18, 2021 at which the Court ordered a signature bond with conditions to maintain absolute sobriety. Wylie was scheduled to have an initial appearance regarding his charges on October 27, 2021, however he did not appear and the Court issued a warrant for his arrest.
Pursuant to the direction of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, as found in Supreme Court Rule 20:3.6, Trial Publicly, you are advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
