Woman Charged With Bringing Meth Into Sawyer Jail & Delivering To Other Inmates

SAWYER COUNTY -- Hayward, WI woman, Deanna M. Johnson is facing new criminal charges in Sawyer County Circuit Court following an investigation into the discovery of methamphetamine concealed inside one of the Sawyer County Jail cells.

A criminal complaint filed against Johnson in February 2021 alleges that in December 2020 she brought methamphetamine into the Sawyer County Jail and then provided it to other inmates in the jail.

On December 29, 2020, during a ‘shakedown’ search of a cell block inside the Sawyer County Jail, a deodorant container was located with two packets of methamphetamine concealed inside the container.

The subsequent investigation revealed that the container belonged to Johnson, and according to the criminal complaint, investigators also discovered that Johnson had provided methamphetamine to at least two other inmates of the jail.

When investigators interviewed Johnson, she allegedly admitted to concealing the methamphetamine on her person and bringing it with her to the Sawyer County Jail when she was transported to Sawyer County a few days prior.

Johnson is charged with Class D Felony Possession With Intent to Deliver Methamphetamine and two counts of Class F Felony Delivery of Methamphetamine. Her charges were filed with the penalty enhancer for Possession With Intent To Deliver Controlled Substance On or Near a Jail.

At a hearing on February 23, 2021, the Court placed Johnson on a $2,500 signature bond. She is scheduled to have an initial appearance in March 2021 on her new charges.
