(WPR) -- The Wisconsin Supreme Court has chosen a legislative redistricting plan drawn by GOP lawmakers, giving Republicans an even bigger advantage in state legislative elections for the next decade.
The court handed down its ruling in a 4-3 decision Friday. Swing Justice Brian Hagedorn joined the rest of the court's conservatives to cast the deciding vote.
Hagedorn had sided with the court's liberals in early March to choose a map drawn by Gov. Tony Evers. But that decision was struck down by the U.S. Supreme Court and remanded to Wisconsin based on the way it applied the federal Voting Rights Act to drawing Black-majority districts in Milwaukee.
Assuming the ruling stands, it could put Republicans within striking distance of a veto-proof majority in the Legislature, where GOP lawmakers have held big majorities since they drew the last legislative map in 2011.
