FOND DU LAC, WI — A man who was charged and convicted for arson at a U.S. congressman’s office has now been sentenced.
Caiden Sage Stachowicz was arrested and later appeared in Fond Du Lac Circuit Court in January 2026 following an investigation into the arson at U.S. Congressman Glenn Grothman’s district office in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.
Stachowicz was charged with arson, terrorist threats, attempted burglary, and criminal damage to property. He was placed on a $500,000 cash bond.
Fond Du Lac County District Attorney Eric J. Toney commended the rapid response of local authorities. “We are grateful for the quick actions of the Fond du Lac Police and Fire Departments that ensured nobody was injured in this attack and prevented more significant property damage. We will continue to aggressively prosecute anyone that attempts to intimidate government officials from performing their lawful duties, regardless of whether we agree with the government action.”
In November 2025, Stachowicz pleaded No Contest to his charge of Class C Felony Arson of Building w/o Owner's Consent. The remaining charges against him were dismissed and/or read in.
Stachowicz appeared most recently on March 5, 2026, for a sentencing hearing. The Hon. Judge Tricia Walker ordered him to serve 7 years of initial incarceration, followed by 7 years of extended supervision, with credit for 410 days already served.
Judge Walker ordered Stachowicz to pay over $17,000 in restitution in addition to court costs and assessments. He will be required to undergo a mental health assessment and other assessments at the discretion of the Department of Corrections. Stachowicz will be prohibited from any contact with Mr. Grothman or his residence or his office, or with any office or person serving in a political capacity.
