Johnsonville, LLC has issued a recall of approximately 22,672 pounds of its cheddar bratwurst product due to potential contamination with hard plastic, according to an announcement Friday from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).
The affected product is the “Johnsonville BRATS CHEDDAR Bratwurst” packaged in 19-ounce sealed firm trays containing five bratwursts. The recalled packages are marked with the code “B9FOD” and bear the establishment number “Est. 1647” on the front label. The product was produced on February 5, 2025.
These bratwursts were distributed to retail locations across 10 states: Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
According to FSIS, Johnsonville notified the agency after receiving two consumer complaints involving hard plastic found in the product. At this time, there have been no confirmed reports of injury or illness. However, consumers who may be concerned about injury are advised to contact a healthcare provider.
FSIS is urging consumers to check their freezers and avoid eating the recalled product. Affected packages should be discarded or returned to the place of purchase.
The FSIS will continue to monitor the recall process and will post retail distribution lists on its website at fsis.usda.gov/recalls as they become available.
Consumers with questions about the recall can also contact FSIS or visit the Johnsonville website for more information.
