NORTHWEST WISCONSIN -- Wild Rivers Habitat for Humanity Honored with Transparency Seal and USDA Grant for Housing Preservation
Wild Rivers Habitat for Humanity has achieved two significant milestones, highlighting its commitment to community impact and inclusivity. The organization has been awarded the prestigious Candid Seal of Transparency and a $100,000 USDA Housing Preservation Grant, bolstering its efforts to support safe and affordable housing across northwestern Wisconsin.
Recognition for Transparency and Inclusivity
The Candid Seal of Transparency underscores Wild Rivers Habitat for Humanity’s dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives. This recognition reflects the organization’s commitment to full transparency in financial practices and board leadership, fostering accountability and trust within the community.

Addressing Housing Needs Through USDA Grant
In addition to its recognition for transparency, Wild Rivers Habitat for Humanity has been awarded a $100,000 grant through the USDA Rural Development’s Housing Preservation program. This funding will enable the organization to provide critical home rehabilitation and repairs in Washburn County and the surrounding counties of Ashland, Bayfield, Burnett, Douglas, Polk, Price, Taylor, and Rusk.
“We are deeply honored to receive the $100,000 USDA Housing Preservation Grant, which will allow us to expand critical home repair services for income-eligible families across our region,” said Johnson. “In Northern Wisconsin, where over 40% of housing stock is more than 50 years old, too many households face unsafe living conditions due to aging homes in need of repair. This funding ensures we can address pressing health and safety concerns, making homes warmer, drier, and safer for those who need it most. We are grateful for the USDA’s partnership in building stronger, healthier communities.”
The grant is part of the Biden-Harris administration’s initiative to ensure equitable access to infrastructure and economic opportunities in rural areas. Through its Home Preservation and Repairs program, also known as "A Brush with Kindness," Wild Rivers Habitat for Humanity offers services such as exterior painting, installation of wheelchair ramps and other accessibility features, weatherization, window and door repairs or replacements, insulation, and roofing repairs. These services are available to income-eligible homeowners whose homes serve as their primary residence.
