We Care Barron County is a local, action oriented community coalition aimed at addressing the local professional caregiver crisis. We Care’s mission is to connect people with community resources to address the caregiver crisis right here in Barron County through community education & awareness campaigns and recruiting and retaining caregivers in our community.
Did you Know?
- There are currently 20, 655 open caregiver positions in Wisconsin Long –Term Care facilities & programs.
- 1 in 3 facilities are limiting admissions due to staffing vacancies.
- Due to staffing shortages, nursing homes in Wisconsin alone have more than 2,000 empty beds, the equivalent of 29 nursing homes.
- Since 2020, 327 nursing homes have shut down.
- By 2034, older adults with outnumber children for the first time in history.
“If we don’t work to address these concerns now, the state of long term care for older adults in Barron County will become a large scale crisis in coming years as our aging population grows and requires more care.” states Alisa Lammers, Caregiver Specialist for the Aging and Disability Resource Center.
Each month, We Care Barron County coalition members will be sharing information with the community about the caregiver crisis and promoting opportunities to become a caregiver in your community. Members will be giving community presentations and sharing information via social media.
“In January we are highlighting local opportunities to become a Certified Nursing Assistant” states Lammers. Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA’s) work in a variety of sectors including hospitals, nursing homes and home care agencies. They are an integral part of the healthcare team taking care of some of the most vulnerable patients. “Right now has never been a better time to become a CNA through one of the many programs available locally.” Current opportunities include paid onsite training with retention bonuses from local employers.
