BARRON COUNTY -- The following is an updated press release from Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald in relation to the single-vehicle crash on Monday night that has led to the death of a 14-year-old teenage girl, a second in critical condition, and a third with serious injuries.

As of 2:00 p.m., today, there is no change in the status of the females in the accident from Monday.

  • The 15-year-old at Regions is still listed in critical condition.
  • The 14-year-old female that is in Marshfield is in stable condition with a serious arm injury.
  • The 16-year-old male driver remains in custody in the Eau Claire Detention Facility.

Again our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of those affected this incident.

Also I want to extend a sincere thank you to the Cameron Fire Department, LMC Ambulance staff, Life Link Helicopters, WI State Patrol, Mayo Ambulance staff and the Deputies and Dispatchers of the Barron County Sheriff’s Department. The effort, care and compassion shown at this scene by these departments doing all they had to do and all they could do was very commendable.

Also I would like to commend the Rice Lake Area School District and staff on their communication with parents and students and the work and care they undertook to help our kids.

BARRON COUNTY -- One of the 14-year-old teenage girls involved in the single-vehicle rollover crash on Monday night has died, according to an updated press release on Tuesday from the Barron County Sheriff's Office.

At 7:30 a.m, the Barron County Sheriff’s Department was advised by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office that one of the 14-year-old females involved in the crash from last night has passed away.

Driver Arrested For OWI After Crash Leaves 2 Teen Girls In Critical Condition, Another With Serious Injuries

BARRON COUNTY -- A single-vehicle crash on Monday night has resulted in 2 teenage girls in critical condition and a 3rd with serious injuries. A 16-year-old male driver had minor injuries and was arrested for OWI, according to a press release from the Barron County Sheriff’s Office.

On Monday, October 10, 2022, at 7 pm, the Barron County 911 center received a call of a one-vehicle rollover on 16 1/2 Ave near 19 3/4 St, just north of Cameron.

Deputies from the Barron County Sheriff’s Department along with the Cameron Fire Department, LMC Ambulance, Cameron Police Department, Mayo Ambulance, WI State Patrol, and 2 Life Link Helicopters responded to the scene.

Initial investigation shows a vehicle occupied by a 16-year-old male was traveling west on 16 1/2 Ave at a high rate of speed and lost control causing the vehicle to roll several times.

In the vehicle were 3 juvenile females ages 15, 14, and 14. Two females were flown to Regions Hospital in St Paul and are in critical condition. The third female was transported to LMC and later flown out to a Marshfield Hospital with serious injuries.

The male driver was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

As a result of the initial investigation, the 16-year-old was taken into custody on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance causing injury and is currently being held in the Eau Claire Secure Detention Facility.

This case is being sent to the Barron County District Attorney’s Office for review.

This crash remains under investigation by the Barron County Sheriff’s Department and is being reconstructed by the WI State Patrol.
