CHIPPEWA COUNTY -- The Court has sentenced a Menomonie, WI man on his conviction for Operating While Intoxicated 6th Offense.
DrydenWire previously published a press release from the Wisconsin State Patrol in June 2020. According to the press release, a Wisconsin State Patrol Trooper stopped to check on a vehicle shortly after 6:30a. The driver, identified as Eugene Vilz, was arrested for operating while intoxicated after showing signs of impairment during field sobriety testing.
Vilz was charged with Class G Felony 6th Offense Operating While Intoxicated and Class G Felony Operate With Restricted Controlled Substance in Chippewa County Circuit Court. Online Circuit Court records show that at a hearing on June 21, 2021, the Court accepted Vilz’s plea of guilty to his charge of Class G Felony 6th Offense Operating While Intoxicated. The remaining charge against him was dismissed but read in.
The Court sentenced Vilz to 1 year of initial confinement in state prison followed by 2 years of extended supervision; consecutive to any other sentence.
Vilz was ordered to pay over $2000 in costs and fees and will be subject to a permanent driver’s license revocation. The Court ordered Vilz to complete 300 hours of community service and undergo an alcohol and other drug assessment.
Conditions of supervision will prohibit Vilz from possessing or consuming any alcohol or illegal drugs.
