SAWYER COUNTY -- The Court has sentenced Anthony Sharlow, of Hayward, WI, on convictions stemming from a two-vehicle crash that occurred in June 2021.
DrydenWire published a post in July 2021, regarding charges that were filed against Sharlow following a two-vehicle crash that resulted in injuries to one.
On June 4, 2021, Lac Courte Oreilles Tribal Police Department responded to a call regarding a vehicle driving in the wrong lane heading northbound towards the Sevenwinds Casino. A caller reported that the suspect vehicle had collided with their vehicle before driving away from the scene of the crash. The driver had sustained injuries including cuts on her face and arms and was bleeding.
Sharlow denied being involved in any crash and said that he was not aware of any damage to the other vehicle, but allegedly did admit to consuming alcohol. Charges of Felony Hit & Run - Injury; Felony Operating While Intoxicated Causing Injury- 2nd and Subsequent; and Felony Prohibited Alcohol Concentration Cause Injury (2+) were filed against Sharlow. Online circuit court records show that Sharlow appeared most recently on December 16, 2021, for a sentencing hearing regarding his charges.
The Court accepted Sharlow’s pleas of No Contest to his charges of Felony Hit & Run - Injury; and Felony Operating While Intoxicated Causing Injury- 2nd and Subsequent. The charge of Felony Prohibited Alcohol Concentration Cause Injury (2+) was dismissed and merged by operation of law, according to online court records.
The Court ordered Sharlow to serve 4 months confinement in county jail, on his conviction of Felony Hit and Run-Involve Injury with good time and Huber privileges.
For his conviction of Class H Felony Operating While Intoxicated Cause Injury (2+) the Court ordered Sharlow to serve a 6-year prison sentence, imposed and stayed with 4 years of probation. Should Sharlow’s probation be revoked he will face 3 years initial confinement and 3 years extended supervision.
Sharlow will serve these sentences consecutive to a 1-year county jail confinement sentence that Sharlow received following revocation of probation on a separate Sawyer County Circuit Court case.
The Court has ordered Sharlow to undergo an Alcohol and Other Drug Assessment and follow through with recommendations.
Sharlow is also to complete any counseling and programming deemed appropriate by his Department of Corrections agent, and follow through and pay fines/costs of $1,492.00.
