Two-Vehicle Crash Results In Charges Of OWI With Children In Vehicle

BURNETT COUNTY -- Criminal charges of operating while intoxicated with children in the car and also causing injury have been filed against a man in Burnett County following a two-vehicle crash that occurred on July 18, 2021.

Burnett County law enforcement responded to the scene of a two-vehicle crash on July 18, 2021, and found a pickup truck on its side and a passenger car with visible damage. According to a criminal complaint filed in Burnett County Circuit Court, law enforcement determined that James Pijanowski was the driver of the vehicle which caused the crash.

Pijanowski had visible bleeding injuries to his face, one eye was swollen nearly shut, and he had numerous cuts on his arms. He was sitting on the grass with his two children, ages 4 and 8.

The criminal complaint does not list any injuries to the children or to the driver of the other vehicle.

Pijanowski allegedly stated that he had pulled out from a stop sign and did not see an oncoming vehicle which “t-boned” his vehicle. He also allegedly stated that he had consumed one bloody mary mix drink. Pijanowski agreed to a preliminary breath test, the results of which were .084.

Law enforcement transported Pijanowski to the Burnett Medical Center where he submitted to a voluntary blood draw. The results of that blood draw are not listed in the criminal complaint at the time of this post. After being cleared medically, Pijanowski was then transported to the Burnett County Jail.

Pijanowski was previously convicted of operating while intoxicated in 2018 according to the criminal complaint. He is now charged with Class H Felony Operating While Intoxicated Causing Injury - 2nd & Subsequent; two counts of Misdemeanor Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence 2nd Offense with a Minor Child in the Vehicle; Misdemeanor Operate While Revoked; and three counts of Class H Felony Bail Jumping.

DrydenWire.com previously reported in December 2020, that Pijanowski had been charged in Burnett County Circuit Court with Class E Felony Burglary - Arming Self with Dangerous Weapon (Party to a Crime); Class H Felony Theft - Movable Property (Special Facts [firearm]) (Party to a Crime; and two counts of Class H Felony Bail Jumping following a traffic stop in October 2020 which led to the discovery of stolen items including a firearm.  The other person charged in this matter, Christopher Hayward, is scheduled to appear in court again in August 2021 on his charges in this matter and several other court cases that are pending against him in Burnett County Circuit Court.

Online circuit court records show that in March 2021 another court case was filed against Pijanowski in Burnett County Circuit Court charging him with Misdemeanor Operating While Intoxicated 2nd Offense with Passenger Under 16; Misdemeanor Operate With Prohibited Alcohol Concentration 2nd offense with Passenger Under 16; Misdemeanor Operate Firearm While Intoxicated; Misdemeanor Operate While Revoked; and four counts of Class H Felony Bail Jump.

Another court was filed against Pijanowski in Burnett County Circuit Court in June 2021 charging him with four counts of Misdemeanor Financial Transaction Card Fraudulent Use (<=$2500), according to online circuit court records.

Details of those additional cases are not known to DrydenWire.com at the time of this post, however, he is scheduled to appear again in August 2021 regarding all of his criminal charges.
