CHIPPEWA COUNTY — A two-vehicle crash in Chippewa County has resulted in injuries and 29 tons of granular material for roofing shingles being spilled, according to a press release from the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office.
According to authorities, on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at 9:17p, the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a two-vehicle crash between a semi-tractor trailer and pickup truck on STH 29 at Cty Tk M or 30th St.
Upon arrival, the semi-tractor trailer was overturned in the median and the pickup truck was located in the north ditch. Both drivers were the lone occupants of their respective vehicles and needed some extrication. A Mayo helicopter responded but both drivers were transported via ambulance with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
All lanes of STH 29 were temporally closed and traffic was diverted to the frontage roads.
Preliminary investigation revealed the pickup truck was southbound on Cty Tk M and failed to stop and/or yield to the semi-tractor trailer which was westbound on STH 29. The semi struck the front driver’s side of the pickup truck. Physical evidence indicated the point of impact was in the left westbound lane of STH 29. The semi then entered the median and overturned, spilling 29 tons of granular material for roofing shingles. Additional cleanup of this material is to be completed in the following days.
The crash remains under investigation by the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office.
Assisting the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office were the following agencies: Wheaton First Responders and Fire Department, Eau Claire Ambulance, Mayo helicopter, Dunn County Sheriff’s Office, and Chippewa County Highway Department.
