Two-Vehicle Crash in Barron County Results in Fatality

BARRON COUNTY -- A 75-year-old woman died following a two-vehicle crash in Barron County, according to a press release from the Barron County Sheriff Sheriff's Office.

(Press Release) -- On Thursday August 9, 2018, at 7:21 p.m., the Barron County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call of a two vehicle crash on Hwy 53 at 26th Avenue.

Deputies from the Barron County Sheriff’s Department along with the Rice Lake Fire Department, Rice Lake Police Department, WI DNR, Bear Lake Haugen Fire Department, Lakeview Medical Center Ambulance and the Life Link Helicopter were all dispatched to the scene.

Initial investigation shows a vehicle driven by Cheryl Stone, 75 of Iowa, was travelling west on 26th Avenue when she failed to stop at the stop sign and struck a vehicle driven by Phillip Block, 36 of Illinois, that was travelling north on Hwy 53. This vehicle also had one additional adult, age 36, and two children, ages 4 and 6, in it.

All five victims were transported to LMC and Stone was later flown to Mayo in Eau Claire where she passed away from her injuries several hours later. The injuries to the other victims were non-life threatening.

This accident remains under investigation by the Barron County Sheriff’s Department. Hwy 53 was closed in the northbound lane for about one hour.
