BARRON COUNTY - A UTV crash near Cumberland leaves one dead, driver critically injured, as speed and alcohol are suspected factors, with investigation underway by Barron County Sheriff’s Department and WI DNR, according to a press release from the Barron County Sheriff's Office.

On Sunday, June 11, 2023, at 7:24 p.m., the Barron County 911 center took a call of a UTV crash on the trail just south of Cumberland.
Deputies from the Barron County Sheriff’s Department along with the Cumberland Police Department, Cumberland Fire Department, Mayo Ambulance, Marshfield Medical Ambulance, 2 Life Link Helicopters, Barron County First Responders and the WI DNR responded to the scene.
Initial investigation shows a UTV was traveling south on the trail and left the trail and struck a tree. Two occupants of the UTV were both extricated from the UTV.
The driver, a 53-year-old male from Comstock, was flown to Regions Hospital in MN in critical condition. The passenger, a 48-year-old female from Comstock, was deceased at the scene.
Speed and Alcohol are believed to be contributing factors.
The WI DNR is reconstructing the accident scene and the case remains under investigation by the Barron County Sheriff’s Department and the WI DNR.
